The month of April was all about trying new things in the beauty department. While I am never one to do the contour-heavy look anyway, I kept things even lighter and simpler with my makeup routine in April. In terms of skincare, I've been trying to regenerate my skin after another brutal Wisconsin winter. My complexion has been in need of moisture and brightness, which I've been able to achieve with a consistent combination of the Andalou Clementine +C Illuminating Toner, Origins Original Skin Renewal Serum with Willowherb and the Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate. I use both the Andalou toner and Origins serum day and night, but reserve the Midnight Recovery for the evening to give it ample time to sink in.
In the makeup department, I've been keeping things very soft, glowy and simple. For an additional boost of SPF and a much smoother complexion I've been using the NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer in Alaska. The coverage is perfect for the start of spring and only gets better over an eight-hour work day. I enjoy applying it with my hands, but I blend the edges with the Bobbi Brown Full Coverage Face Brush. Since the Hourglass Ambient Bronzer became a new addition to my collection during the VIB sale I haven't stopped using it. It's been working quadruple duty as my bronzer, contour, blush and highlight and I'm loving it. I've been applying it with the Bobbi Brown Sheer Powder Brush, which has worked flawlessly in all areas of my face. For the brows I always go pretty bold, yet natural. The combination of the Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in Soft Brunette and the Bobbi Brown Natural Brow Shaper & Hair Touch Up in Blonde have helped me to achieve that look. Something that's a little new for me has been leaving my eyes bare with just a heap of mascara for definition. The Bobbi Brown Extreme Party Mascara gives me full, defined lashes in just a couple swipes. Another unexpected choice for me this month has been a peachy lip. I came across the MAC lipstick in Reel Sexy, which is part of the MAC is Beauty collection and I think it's gorgeous. Somehow it manages to be both subtle and vibrant, while creating a pout I never thought my lips could achieve. I've also been using the Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap in Peppermint to deep clean my brushes. After use my brushes are squeaky clean and accompanied by a fresh peppermint sent. This soap has magic in its name for a reason.
April was clearly a success in helping me find some new favorites I anticipate will become staples in my beauty routine. What have been your favorites this month? What should I check out in May?
