Skincare is the most important part of my beauty routine. If my skin is healthy, my makeup will go on more effortlessly and I'll be able to enhance my complexion instead of masking it. Working in beauty over the last few months has already exposed me to some amazing new-to-me brands and products, all of which fall under the categories of either cruelty free, vegan and free from animal testing.
Aesop - Aesop identifies as a cuelty-free and vegan skincare brand. None of its products contain animal-derived ingredients and they are not tested on our animal friends. One of my favorite products Aesop offers is the Parsley Seed Cleansing Masque, which I recently finished. It pulls impurities out of my skin without making my complexion feel stripped. My other favorite is the Camellia Nut Facial Hydrating Cream, which softens my skin and reduces irritation. Its second ingredient is glycerin, which contains properties that allow makeup to adhere to the skin and last longer throughout the day, so it's ideal to apply it before you start your makeup routine.
Sunday Riley - One of my favorite brand discoveries of 2015 was Sunday Riley. Not only are her products luxe and effective, they are also cruelty free and vegan. I'm currently using the Luna Sleeping Night Oil, which is certainly an investment. But its ingredients, science and ethos are well worth the high price tag in my opinion. After using it at night, I wake up with plump, fresh-looking skin thanks to the product's implementation of Trans-Retinol Ester, Blue Tansy, German and Cape Chamomiles, and Avocado and Chia Seed Oils.
Lush - One of the most amazing brands available in skincare is Lush. None of its products are tested on animals and almost every product is vegan. I am currently using the Eau Roma Water as a toner and skin refresher, which is free from any animal-derived products. The Ro's Argan Body Conditioner is also one of my most-loved Lush products, which leaves my skin feeling nourished and smelling delicious. Also vegan, the Ro's Argan Body Conditioner can be used with a completely clean conscience.
NUDE - One of the newest additions to my skincare arsenal is NUDE. The brand does not conduct or commission animal testing on its products, and a handful of them are suitable for vegan consumers. I currently have the Miracle Mask to exfoliate my skin and the Purify Cleansing Wash for a more gentle cleanse.
REN - Another skincare line that's new to my routine is REN. While the brand does not conduct animal testing, it should be noted that it was recently acquired by a parent company, Unilever, which does. I unfortunately learned this after purchasing products from the brand, but will use up the products as they have not been tested on animals. The vegan-friendly products from this line I am currently using are the Rosa Centifolia 3-in-1 Cleansing Water, Wake Wonderful Night-Time Facial, Micropolish Cleanser for exfoliation and the Pure Glow Trio, which includes the Rosa Centifolia No. 1 Cleansing Balm, Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask and Flash Rinse 1 Minute Facial. I also use the Evercalm Anti-Redness Serum, which does include milk in its ingredients.
Farmacy Beauty - Quickly becoming one of my favorite skincare brands is Farmacy Beauty. I've already highlighted its products in another blog post, but I had to mention them again. Farmacy does not test on animals and I have emailed the company asking if any of its products are vegan-friendly. I know one of its Lip Blooms contains honey, so I'd like to get more information on its other products. I will definitely update this post once I hear back from their team. Currently in rotation are the Sleep Tight Firming Night Balm, which contains vegetable-derived ingredients that renew the skin as you sleep, and the Rise and Shine Daily Moisture Lock, which contains peptides to smooth any fine lines and Cichoric Acid, which protects the skin from collagen breakdown.
My cruelty-free journey will always welcome and leave space for any education if I don't get something right. But I am so happy to consume products that honor the lives of my animal friends, especially as a cat mom.
I hope these brands inspire you to try some amazing new products that can be used with a happy heart and clean mind. Please let me know of any other brands I should try in the future.
