Rhode Island isn't just a special place for me. It is for my sister and her fiancee. Kaitlin and I grew up there alongside our cousins and extended family members. It was where my father was raised and it was also the place where my parents met and fell in love (at my aunt's wedding!). It's a place that's engrained in our hearts. So, once Casey became a more important part of my sister's life and he had an opportunity to visit Rhode Island with our family, he and Kaitlin knew that it would be the place they'd eventually want to celebrate their relationship.
As Kaitlin's older sister and only sibling, it wasn't hard to tell that Casey was undoubtedly the right person for my sister. He celebrates her strength and independence, participates in her silliness, challenges her stubbornness (she's my sister, after all), honors her heart, and shares her convictions and passions. He's so gentle without patronizing Kaitlin. He's loving and patient, selfless and kind - all traits my sister deserves.
But most importantly, he loves my sister with all his heart. You can see it from a million miles away.
And my sister has never been happier. She has never loved a man the way she loves Casey, and I think that's because she was storing and saving it for when he came into her life.
While I'm not sure I believe in soulmates, I do know that God put these two incredible people into one another's lives for a reason. They are about to create one of the most beautiful unions the Earth has ever witnessed - one of honesty, faith, partnership and complete love.
I can't wait to stand next to these two in Rhode Island next summer as they embark on the next leg of their journey as a couple. I'm going to need an entire box of tissues stuffed down the front of my dress for the occasion.
