Happy New Year! I know it's been quiet around these parts, but I am feeling very inspired & enthusiastic about the start of this fresh year, and am ready to be much more active on MM. One of my favorite things to do is mosey around folks' beauty collections, so I thought I'd kick off 2016 with a look in my purse makeup bag. I used to carry everything but the kitchen sink with me, but I found that I barely used most of the items. In an attempt to streamline things, I've pared down my cosmetic bag (to a beauty junkie's standards) to a few of my most reached for essentials.
While four lip products is absolutely excessive in most folks' eyes, I have a method to my madness. I will always have a balm of some kind with me in order to keep my lips hydrated throughout the day. One of my favorite formulations is the Korres lip butter in Jasmine. I also like to have a nude and a bolder color on hand in order to simplify or elevate my look depending on the occasion. My current nude is the NARS Audacious lipstick in Anna, and the berry option is the Albeit lipstick in Violette. The newest addition to my lip collection is the wizardry known as the Smashbox Insta-Matte Lipstick Transformer. As its name suggests, this product can turn any lipstick matte with less than a pea-sized amount. Not only does it work, but it also feels shockingly comfortable on the lips. Witchcraft, I tell you.
I covet smelling nice throughout the day and the three products shown above have me sorted. I recently acquired two fragrances from Royal Apothic Conservatory, which, in combination, smell like actual heaven. The blend of floral, sweet, warm and spicy notes make my ideal scent and make it very difficult to not inhale my writsts all day long. To keep my hands moisturized and smelling lovely, I've been turning to Jurlique's Citrus Hand Cream. Nourishing and uplifting, this hand cream is a gorgeous remedy for the mid-afternoon slump that occurs each day during a Midwest winter.
For base touch ups I've been loving the Becca Ultimate Coverage Concealing Creme under the eyes and the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light across the face, accompanied by the retractable Hourglass Double-Ended Complexion Brush. I can use the fluffy end of the brush to apply my powder and the more dense end for intentional concealer placement.
I truly look forward to everything this year will bring Midwest Magpie and appreciate the positive feedback, encouragement and patience I've received throughout the course of 2015. Thank you all, from the bottom of my heart, for sticking with me despite my brief and unintentional hiatus. Let's create some beautiful things in 2016!
